Scripture tells us not to worship any other god than the one true God which is Jesus Christ. But all too often false gods slip into our lives and the next thing you know, we are working and striving to appease them. What gods might I be talking about? The gods I am talking about are myself, my emotions, my thoughts, my body, my image, my career, my family, my relationships, my health … the list could go on and on.
I woke up this morning feeling extremely unsettled and in my time with the Lord I started asking Him what’s next, what do I need to do, Lord, I need your guidance. I began to search scripture to find the answers and all I could hear in my spirit was “sing halleluiah”. This was not the answer I was looking for. I needed clarity on what’s next. So, I tried to ignore it and over and over I kept hearing “sing halleluiah”. Suddenly I realized God was inviting me to commune with Him, to worship Him. He was guiding me in exactly what I needed to do next in that very moment.
I sat in my office with my hands raised to Him in remembrance of His grace and mercy over my life. I remembered that He gave His life in exchange for mine. His body beaten and bruised for all my sins. Instead of requiring my blood which would result in death, Jesus made a way for me to live forever, to have eternal life.
As I bowed before Jesus in worship and praise, Holy Spirit came upon me and filled me with supernatural peace. I no longer needed the answers for what’s next. I already have everything and more that I could possibly need.
False gods are subtle. If you find yourself striving, controlling, fearing … pause and bow down to the One and Only King, Jesus. Open your heart, your mind, will and emotions and be baptized (immersed) in His holy Presence today.
Don’t bow down for temporary pleasures that will soothe your flesh momentarily. Bow to the One who is life everlasting.
What gods do you need to get rid of in your life today? Take a moment to physically get on your knees and surrender to Jesus.
