Viking Announces Float Out of Newest Egypt Ship, Viking Amun, in September 2025

Viking has announced that its newest Nile River ship, the 82-guest Viking Amun, has reached a significant maritime milestone. Viking Amun has been “floated out” marking a major construction target–the first time the ship has touched water.

The Viking Amun will be ready to set sail in September 2025 when it joins the Company’s state-of-the-art ships on the Nile River. Guests on board the new vessel will sail Viking’s popular 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.

In addition to the Viking Amun, Viking will welcome five new ships in Egypt over the span of the next two years. By 2027 Viking will have 12 vessels on the Nile River.

Torstein Hagen is the Chairman and CEO of Viking

Torstein Hagen is the Chairman and CEO of Viking and he said “We are very proud of our growing fleet in Egypt, which we consider to be by far the most elegant vessels on the Nile.”

“Egypt is one of the world’s most captivating destinations, and we look forward to introducing even more curious travelers to this extraordinary region in the coming years.”

The Viking Amun & Viking’s Growing Egypt Fleet

The traditional float out ceremony for the Viking Amun took place at Massara shipyard in Cairo. This event signals that the ship is moving into its final stage of construction. The vessel is now ready to be moved to a nearby outfitting dock for final construction and interior build-out.

The new, state-of-the-art Viking Amun will host 82 guests in 41 staterooms and is imbued with the same spectacular Scandinavian design elements as the rest of Viking’s award-winning river and ocean ships.

The Viking Amun is an identical sister ship to the Viking Osiris, the Viking Aton, the Viking Sobek, and the Viking Hathor. Guests on board the Viking Amun are treated to the company’s elevated architectural aspects that are featured on all of its ships including a distinctive square bow and an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace.

The other ships in Viking’s Egypt fleet include the Viking Ra and the MS Antares.

Viking’s Pharaohs & Pyramids Itinerary

During the 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary, guests kick off their adventure with a three-night stay at a first-class hotel in Cairo. In Cairo, guests are able to view the Great Pyramids of Giza, the necropolis of Sakkara, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, or the Grand Egyptian Museum.

From Cairo guests fly on to Luxor, where the Temples of Luxor and Karnak await! Next guests boarding a Viking river ship for a magnificent eight-day roundtrip cruise on the Nile River.

During the cruise guests visit the tomb of Nefertari in the Valley of the Queens and the tomb of Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings. Additional excursions to the Temple of Khnum in Esna, the Dendera Temple complex in Qena, the temples at Abu Simbel, and the High Dam in Aswan beckon seasoned travelers.

Finally, guests can look forward to a visit to a festive Nubian village, where they can experience a traditional elementary school. Afterward, the journey concludes with a flight back to Cairo for a one final magical night in the ancient city.
