When building our belief in ourselves, it’s important to use positive, empowering language that inspires and motivates us. Language that supports our growth and helps us feel good about ourselves. Moreover, building unshakeable self-belief is key to all success and high performances. In 2019, Eliud Kipchoge, marathon runner, was the first athlete to run a marathon in under two hours. He had desire, trained diligently, had many marathons under his belt, and a phenomenal team to aid and support him. However, at the core of his success was his total belief in his abilities to run a marathon in under two hours. This is what he said after the race:
“No human is limited. When you believe in yourself and your abilities, you unlock your potential to achieve greatness.” – Eliud Kipchoge.
Our beliefs shape our thoughts, emotions, and actions
Because our beliefs shape our thoughts, emotions and actions, they are the source of how we perceive ourselves and the world around us. Our beliefs can either limit or expand our potential, help us achieve great things or keep us small and in the ordinary. Thoughts also influence our physical body.
Neuroscientist Bruce Lipton explains how our beliefs affect our lives, not only our mental and emotional states, actions, but also our physical self.
“As soon as you start to tell yourself in your perception that you can’t do something anymore, then your biological system will adjust to prove you right. You will not do what you think you can’t do.” Bruce Lipton
The good news is, our beliefs are not set in stone. Many of them were picked up when we were young, from well meaning people. Moreover, many of them slipped into our subconscious minds, without our awareness and then, became our truths. It’s possible to change our thoughts, shift our beliefs and replace them with new empowering beliefs. However, it takes conscious effort, self-reflection, and of course, consistency. By challenging and breaking through our limiting beliefs, we can unlock our full potential, become our best version of ourselves and achieve the goals and life we desire.
Are your beliefs, the words you whisper frequently, serving or sabotaging you?
Just like a hammer, words can be used to build something or pull it down. When you build a house, the hammer drives nails into wood to create a strong frame. Similarly, words can help drive great ideas and concepts into our minds, positively shaping our thoughts, beliefs and actions. On the flip side, just as a hammer can be used to tear something down, words can be used to make us or others feel bad, bringing us down, mentally and emotionally. Remember, your words create feelings, which directly influence your energy, state, and what you do.
Here’s a simple technique to help you release and change your negative thoughts and beliefs.
Great, now you have a technique to help release your negative thoughts and replace them with better ones, when you stick to this, with consistency, you create new beliefs. Whatever your predominant thoughts are, become your truth, your beliefs. The more positive belief, the greater your sense of confidence, identity and personal power. And of course, when you believe in yourself, you can achieve great things. Make sure you use your words wisely and intentionally when talking or thinking about your goals, what you want, your abilities and even framing up challenges. It has the power to transform your results.
