My guest, Jacq Davis, master gardener and chef, makes Sugarcane Chicken Kabobs in the first part of a series of videos during Jacq’s recent visit. She selected a recipe to utilize the sugarcane I had just harvested in the garden. I hope you enjoy this mouthwatering recipe.
Sugarcane Chicken Kabobs
~ Ingredients ~
16 slices sugarcane
2 lbs ground chicken
1 cup bread crumbs
2 garlic cloves
1 tsp minced ginger
3 tbl brown coconut sugar
3 tbl soy sauce
2 tbl pineapple or passion fruit juice
1 tbl rice wine
salt and pepper
~ Directions ~
Prepare sugarcane skewers and set aside. (See video here.) Mix all remaining ingredients together thoroughly. Form a handful of chicken mixture around each skewer. Lay in a hot pan, griddle or grill. Cook thoroughly on both sides. Makes 16 kabobs. Serve with fresh salad of chopped red cabbage, red bell pepper, tomato, grated carrot, passion fruit, if available, and hot pepper, if desired. Make a simple dressing of olive oil, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, a little sugar, and sesame oil. Enjoy!

I love watching Jacq prepare food. It was exciting being able to get in close with the camera and film her mincing and chopping technique. Be sure and hear how she feels about creating texture in the foods she prepares.
I have been mentioning on my livestreams for a few weeks now that anyone who would like to see the Late Bloomer Garden in person, needs to make plans now. If you will be in the area, and would like a tour (remember, it’s small but biodiverse!), I charge $35.00 per person for a tour and tea. And you will likely take home a succulent! Write me through the contact page, if you are interested. AGAIN, THESE ARE THE LAST DAYS OF THE LATE BLOOMER GARDEN 1.0. Through November 15th, by appointment only.
Next up, Jacq makes Egyptian Spinach Stew, a dish the pharoahs would eat when they were sick to make them better. I hope you enjoy the whole series! I was lucky that Jacq and her husband could make the trip from their new Epic Yard Farm 2.0 in Tempe, AZ. I’m trying to enjoy my home and garden as much as possible in my last two months here. I hope you will follow my journey in this huge life transition. I will continue to make home and garden content for my channel, so you have all new adventures to look forward to. Thanks for your support! – Kaye
