This is a reflection diary for the third semester for me. The blog research in this semester allowed me to look at the city from a different perspective than usual. Taking several controversial buildings as the starting point, I was able to see that architectural design in the city is not simply independent of each other. They rely on the relationship formed by people’s use in the city to grow in the city. A building may be demolished before the end of its life for some reason, perhaps because its existence itself affects the development of the surrounding city. The study of the impact of earthquakes on cities also made me re-understand urban design. At first, I focused on the impact of protest structures in design, and then I realized that urban reconstruction after earthquakes is also a very interesting topic. This made me understand that urban reconstruction is not just about restoring the physical structure of the city. For a city, the most critical part is not only whether the infrastructure can be used normally, but also whether the impact of such a level of damage on the local economy will cause the people who originally lived here to move away, thereby causing a city to decline. Urban reconstruction needs to consider these issues rather than just rebuilding the direct physical damage.
About model making
3D print machine working 2024.
3D printing is not just about printing directly after modeling. After exporting some Sketchup models, some faces may be incomplete for the printer, and the position relationship of the support materials must also be considered. For example, when printing a bridge hole, for the printer, the space under the bridge hole needs to be made of support materials to create a scaffolding-like structure so that the printing module can work correctly on it.
About design
3D Site Analysis 2024.
Regarding the design of the ARC8117 module, I tried to design a three-dimensional design in a complex space. So I tried to use the modeled model to make some three-dimensional analysis diagrams to show the effect. This is a challenge for me, but it is also a process of learning along with the challenge.
The understanding gained after completing the challenges encountered in these blog research and design has helped me further understand what urban design is.
