Ran Baas, The Palace    Set within the centuries-old Qila Mubarak complex in Patiala, Punjab, Ran Baas, The Palace reawakens the grandeur of royal Punjab. In 2025, it earned its place among the World’s Most Beautiful Hotels, a prestigious recognition from Prix Versailles, bestowed under the patronage of UNESCO and the International Union of Architects. Notably, it is the only Indian hotel on the list. Built originally as a royal guesthouse within the historic fortress, Ran Baas was restored by architect Abha Narain Lambah, in collaboration with The Park Hotels, honouring Mughal, Rajput, Sikh, and Colonial architectural traditions while weaving in modern comforts.

Guests can choose from serene white-on-white settings to bold jewel-toned palettes like sapphire, coral, teal, or mustard. Adding to the charm are muraled walls, striped floors reminiscent of cricket pitches, frescoed details, and luxurious touches like walk-in closets and expansive bathrooms. Every suite feels like a curated experience, some with frescoed walls featuring hunting-scene motifs, others with narrative paintings converted from original chinikhanas into desk nooks.

Plan Your Stay at Ran Baas Punjab

Ran Baas lies right inside the Qila Mubarak fort complex, just around 4 km from central Patiala, a quick 5–10 minute drive. It's tucked into centuries of history, yet super easy to reach. Check-in typically begins at 2:00 PM and can stretch up to 11:30 PM if needed. Arriving early or staying late may be possible, but please note that there might be extra charges. Guests typically check out by 11:00 AM, although some platforms list it as late as 11:30 AM, depending on availability.  For air travellers, the nearest international airport is Chandigarh, about 70 km away. The journey takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. Patiala also has a small local airstrip, but it only serves private planes.    Rooms at Ran Baas usually start around ₹28,000 per night for a Junior Suite. Deluxe Suites with extra comforts like courtyards or jacuzzis cost a bit more.
