What is the Venice Simplon Orient Express?
This isn’t your average high-speed train through Europe. The Venice Simplon Orient Express is a historic art-deco-style train where you can relive the golden age of travel.
Everything about the train oozes luxury. Think glossy wooden furnishings, crystal champagne glasses, and bone China silverware. Tickets are expensive, but you can guarantee that you’ll be treated like royalty the entire time!
The Ride
Our journey left Venice at 11 am and arrived in London just around 6 pm. Along the way, we got to see the beautiful landscapes of Austria, Germany, Lichtenstein, and France outside our windows. However, the train also serves other routes to Belgium, the Netherlands, and several other destinations around Europe.
Catching the gondola to the train station
The train will stop several times, mostly at borders to change engines and conductors. Therefore, you’ll have some time to stretch your legs or get some fresh air throughout the day.
After arriving in France the next morning, you will actually disembark the Venice Simplon and board a coach (which is also extremely luxurious) to travel the Chunnel. Once in England, you’ll hop on the Belmond British Pullman Luxury Train to continue your ride into London.
The Rooms
Sticking with the same art-deco vibe, the rooms are nothing short of glamorous. You can book a single or twin cabin, a cabin suite, or, if you’re willing to splurge, a grand suite.
We opted for the cabin suite, which came with a convertible sofa/bunk bed, a small table, and built-in vanity and washbasin. Toilets are located in each carriage, although they are shared with other guests.
Your room also comes with toiletries, robes, and slippers, so you can get cozy before bed.

Although most people avoid train food, this will not be the case on the Venice Simplon. Every single meal you’ll have is outstanding. Between the high-class service and gourmet meal options, you’ll feel as if you’re dining in a Michelin star restaurant. Dinner is also a formal event, so make sure you bring at least one nice outfit.
After dinner, you can grab a drink in the Bar Car or enjoy live music played by the baby grand pianist.
The Venice Simplon Orient Express is guaranteed to be a memorable experience from the second you step onboard. It’s one of those moments that you’ll remember for the rest of your life!
