Elevated luxury awaits at Jesmond Dene House’s brand new Garden Suite – a peaceful sanctuary nestled right in the heart of one of Newcastle’s most loved green spaces.
Feeling more like a private residence in ‘The New House’, the Garden Suite has a private entrance away from the main building, a stylish open plan design with separate spacious bathroom including bath tub, shower and double sinks, and most importantly – the secluded patio, garden area and large hot tub. The suite itself is thoughtfully designed with sleek furnishings and bold flashes of colour. There’s two TVs, a comfortable lounge area with sofa and table, and a separate table with chairs so you can utilise the space as you wish. Urban Apothecary toiletries, fresh milk in the fridge, homemade biscuits, coffee machine and magazines heighten the personalised luxurious experience.
Having the patio doors open gives a real sense of calm and tranquility as you can hear the birds tweeting and the wind rustling through the trees. There’s outdoor seating so you can enjoy a glass of wine and a good book, a morning coffee or even a nightcap while being immersed in greenery.
We absolutely loved the hot tub which always makes a hotel stay feel more special doesn’t it?! There are two sets of jets, Bluetooth so you can pair to your phone for the perfect soundtrack, and atmospheric lighting for when it gets dark. We had the temperature set at a toasty 40 degrees which was perfect – especially as the sun disappeared, and fluffy robes and slippers to get us from the hot tub to the hot shower!
In addition to the hot tub suite, Jesmond Dene House has also introduced the Armstrong Suite – a ‘fashion forward’ suite with private patio. Even if you’ve visited Jesmond Dene House many times, these new rooms are sure to enhance your stay at this gorgeous independent boutique hotel.
Exec. Chef Gareth Rayner ensures a special dining experience at Fern with a menu which uses simple quality ingredients, with his signature flair and stunning presentation.
Starters include Dorset crab on baked English muffin served with brown crab mayo and fresh dill and herb salad. Pressed pigs head terrine has bursts of unique flavour courtesy of the pickled mustard seeds for a sweet and savoury hit, while brioche and pork crackling provide texture.
Dry aged Duroc pork ribeye – a superior pork with marbling and intense flavour comes served with English peas, smoked bacon, Toulouse sausage and girolles. The Yorkshire lamb has the sweetness of a grass and flower fed diet, accompanied by a lamb fat crumpet carrying a substantial tomato jam and black garlic topping.
The fried potato is actually one on the best sides I’ve ever had. This golden coated wonder in the form of two chunky rectangular chips contains perfectly layered potato and arrives at the table completely covered in aged parmesan with rich notes of nuttiness and caramel.
Breakfast is also served at Fern and there’s a full buffet offering plus a hot ‘to order’ selection and the usual teas and coffees.
The mix of contemporary styling and historic architecture along with the gardens, grounds and location of this 1820s Georgian mansion ensure a unique stay every time you visit Jesmond Dene House. While steeped in history, it’s nice to see that they’re happy to evolve and suit the needs of the modern traveller.
