Yes, Y-3 adidas collab prices range from around $100-$800. While that may be a shock to those browsing adidas’ otherwise affordable priced athletic clothes, Yohji’s branded line can cost you up to 10X that.
Y-3 should be seen for its own unique identity to appreciate it for what it is.
A closeup for this adidas Y-3 review will reveal that Y-3 is made with beautiful, high quality fabrics. Subtle details can be seen in the texture when closely examined, and this pant has a truly beautiful flow as you move.
The intricate details are what you would expect from a more upscale luxury brand.
From layered pocket hems to flowing lines in the construction of this piece, the thoughtful artistic touches of a talented designer are evident. A look at the inside assembly and manufacturing of the piece also looks good, with even lines and well finished edges.
If you’re in between sizes I’d go smaller on the oversized pieces to get a similar fit to what you see online. I exchanged my size small (shot in these photos) for an extra small, to fit better in the hip area and bring the waistline up.
I was hoping these oversized Y-3 pants would have had a more flattering fit from a straight on angle for the price range, but that’s going to be affected a lot by body type. Watching some footage used to capture these photos, the piece moves well, and overall I still like the look of them. I find that oversized clothing is always a challenge since the look is deliberately unfitted.
This look is more of a fashion (or anti-fashion) statement that you either like or you don’t.
It’s not intended to highlight your most flattering features. Rather, the look is a bit rebellious in nature that feels more about fierce energy and understated strength than following fashion rules.
Granted, I had some adidas credit to burn after signing a new contract with them. Even still, it isn’t an easy call to trade off 4-to-1 when adidas offers so many fashionable, functional workout clothes and athleisure pieces I really like (and could get a lot of wear out of).
All that to say–I kept the pants. And I’ll be keeping an eye on the collection for future buys.
What can I say, the line is cool. Like really cool. I’d hands down wear everything in the line.
The assortment is also very functional with a neutral color palette of black and white, and some essentials elevated with Y-3’s signature details and silhouettes.
You can wear the adidas x Yohji Yamamoto collection with athleisure or more sophisticated pieces. This is the kind of fashion that mixes and remixes well with so many pieces, making it versatile and adding value to your selection.
You can wear them with almost anything, and they somehow still set the tone.
For this adidas Y-3 outfit, I paired Y-3 pants with an adidas athletic workout top for a millennial look that’s well suited for both fashion and function–But I selected the pants because they also go well with my sophisticated knits, button down shirts, crewnecks and more.
A piece I can wear and rewear that elevates everything in my wardrobe? Y-3 was worth it to me.
