Boys love sports, and I respect their utmost passion in supporting their favorite team. But no matter how hardcore it can be, I admit that this is a department that will never excel.
However, I suggest an exemption when we talk about their uniform, like a good quality rugby shirt. With a little bit of styling technique, a rugby shirt could be your next favorite stable.
From one of my (many) op shopping trips, I found this cotton Gazman rugby shirt from the op-shop (for only AUD$2.00). Instantly, this shirt reminds me of Louis Vuitton’s Autumn/Winter 2022 Collection, and I figured this shirt is a good score for myself. It’s a good thing my husband isn’t interested in wearing this shirt.
Who would have thought that a rugby shirt paired with a flowing maxi dress would look appealing?
So, I did mine using the maxi dress that I also bought from the op-shop (for AUD$8.00) with one of my PUMA kicks and a tote bag from my stash.
Adding a pearl necklace for a hint of elegance.
Wearing a rugby shirt gives that ‘quiet luxury’ appeal, while being a supporter of your local communities’ sports without choosing which side of team are you. It is versatile to wear and comfortable enough for changing weather conditions.
I was delighted to have this Gazman (gazman.com.au) rugby shirt, considering (and unknowingly for most) that this heritage Australian menswear brand has been one of the most trusted clothing companies in the country since 1984 and continues to be a family-owned and Australia-run business.
Styling a rugby top for your day-to-day wardrobe, rather than for actual sports, offers endless versatility. Imagine it as your go-to long-sleeved knit: it pairs seamlessly with denim, tailored trousers, skirts, and shorts. Its layering potential is unmatched—wear it over a tank or casually drape it around your shoulders. If you’re in the mood to go full-on prep, wear your rugby shirt alongside a pleated midi skirt. To give your uniform a more laid-back edge, slip into a pair of suede sneakers.
As part of the bloke-core aesthetic, I think we can enjoy stealing and wearing our boyfriend/husband’s rugby shirts for a while based on what the recent street stylers of Copenhagen Spring 2025 Fashion Week have been wearing.
Rugby shirts are effortlessly chic and preppy, make we feel like we’ve been to top elite schools, and are adaptable to any mood you are in.
Okay, I should check my local op shops for more rugby shirts because one isn’t enough!
