This Heatless Curls Tutorial using Flexi Rods Hair Curlers is one of the easiest and quickest ways to style your hair without using damaging heat tools. It only takes about one hour to get bouncy and voluminous curls.
I try my best to not use too much heat on my hair. Heat tools are great for creating a number of hairstyles, but they can be quite damaging for your hair even when you use a heat protectant.
Since my hair is quite fine, but I have lots of it, it tends to tangle easily – and that is even worse when my hair is damaged. That’s why, the majority of the time, I try to stick to hairstyling methods that are heatless and low-damage.
Years ago, I used these Flexi Rods Hair Curlers to style my hair and I loved how easy they were to use and how curly and bouncy they made my hair look. As my hair grew longer, I found that using a Curling Rod was the easiest way to heatlessly curl my hair. However, after recently chopping my hair, I realized that I needed to find a new way to curl my hair.
The Curling Rod is a great tool for medium-length and long hair, but it’s quite challenging to wrap short hair around the rod and have it stay in place. Instead, for shorter hair, you need to use smaller rods and more of them and Flexi Rods Hair Curlers are absolutely perfect for styling shorter hair.
Are Flexi-Rods Easy to Put In?
Yes. Flexi Rods Hair Curlers are super easy to put in. After dividing your hair into sections, you will simply roll your hair from the ends up to the roots around the Flexi Rods Hair Curlers and then fold the rod under the curl to secure it in place. It’s a really quick and easy process.
How Long Should I Leave The Flexi Rod Curlers In?
The longer you keep your curlers in, the better the curl will set in place. I typically will leave my curlers in for around an hour and I’ve found that that works well – but if you have longer then leave them in!
How to Make Your Curls Last Longer
If you find that your curls tend to fall quickly when you heatlessly hairstyle your hair, then I recommend trying two things out.
The first would be to add mousse to your hair. Applying a bit of mousse to your hair will help the curls lock in place as the mousse sets. When I do heatless curls, I tend to do it on freshly blow-dried hair, and on my 90% dried hair, I will run a bit of mousse through it to give my hair a bit of extra hold. When you take your curlers out, you may find your hair has a slight bit of crunch but this will go away once you either finger comb or lightly comb your curls out.
The second option is to spray a bit of hairspray onto each section before rolling your hair into the curler. This will also give your hair a bit of extra hold and help the curl set in place. Like the mousse, you may find that your hair feels a bit textured or crunchy when you first remove the curlers. That will go away once you gently comb your curls out.
Heatless Curls Tutorial Using Flexi Rods
1. Section The Right & Left Sides of Your Hair
Divide your hair into two sections – the right and left sides – and clip them apart.
2. Section The Top and Bottom Of Your Hair
Next, divide each side into two more sections, the top and bottom. Again, clip those sections apart to keep them separated, it will make the next steps easy.
3. Begin Rolling Your Hair Onto The Flexi Rods
Starting on the bottom section of hair on one side, begin taking 1-1.5 inch sections of hair and roll the Flexi Rods Hair Curlers from the end of your hair to your root.
4. Secure The Rods In Place
Once your Flexi Rod Hair Curler has reached the roots of your hair, fold the ends of the Flexi Rod below the curl to hold it in place.
5. Repeat
Repeat the previous steps around your head until all of your hair is in the curlers.
6. Use a Bonnet or Hair Cap
To keep your curlers from falling and to help set the curls, put a silk hair bonnet or hair cap over the top of your hair.
7. Let Your Curls Set
Let the curls set for an hour or more and then remove the Flexi Rod Hair Curlers. Gently finger comb the curls out to give a softer and more lived-in look.
8. Done!
