Dresden, Germany: Promenade Stroll, River Elbe Views and Breakfast at the Bruhlsche Terrace (Cafe Vis a Vis)

Dresden, Germany: Promenade Stroll, River Elbe Views and Breakfast at the Bruhlsche Terrace (Cafe Vis a Vis)

I went to Dresden, Germany in 2017 with a friend (Bubbles) who flew over from Canada to visit me. We did a number of trips in Europe and Dresden was one of the city trips. She wanted to see the beautiful architecture in the city. You can find our Dresden diaries here: Dresden, Germany Trip

On our last day in Dresden, we did some strolling in the Inner Neustadt which is the area near where our hotel was located, then we crossed the River Elbe to the Altstadt (Old Town) on the Augustus Bridge. This current bridge was built in the early 1900s but the original one that used to stand here was built in the 17th century.

We wanted to enjoy the sights of the city before we leave in the afternoon. Dresden is full of old historical buildings so it is a joy to simply walk around and take in the surroundings.

Our plan for the morning was to take a leisurely stroll on the Brulsche Terrace, then have breakfast at Cafe Vis a Vis. This cafe is the best-situated cafe with a terrace on the Bruhlsche Terrace. The perfect place in my opinion to sit, relax, and people watch!
After breakfast and some more Old Town architecture sightseeing, we plan to do some last-minute shopping, some more sightseeing, and the finale, lunch, before we go catch out flight back to Amsterdam.

The view to the other side of the River Elbe (New Town) is these beautiful government buildings.

Traditional interior of Cafe Vis a Vis. I was surprised to see that it is quite big inside.

Obviously, we preferred to sit outdoors on the terrace.

Breakfast at the Cafe Vis a Vis was simple and elegant. We wanted to eat lunch so we made sure breakfast was not heavy. What I love about this meal were the great location and the lovely views. When dining, it is all about the location and the views!

We stayed a bit longer on the Brulsche Terrace, enjoying the scenery on the River Albe and the view of the old historical buildings across the river. The Bruhlsche Terrace was starting to get busy and the cafe and we have the best seat in town as we carry on people watching. It was still a chilly April morning and the terrace heaters were doing their job very well. It is a morning treat indeed.

After breakfast, we explored the gardens of the Bruhlsche Terrace and did some more sightseeing in the Old Town.

Is there something as a breakfast dessert?

Time to do the last-minute shopping! And then some lunch…
