The Carlton Hotel in St Moritz is without a doubt one of the
most luxurious ski hotels in the world.
Perched on the hillside close to the
town center, all parts of the hotel feature sensational views of the mountains
and the lake. The Carlton Hotel has always been luxurious – when it was opened
in 1913 it was already rated as a five-star hotel. In 2008, it was completely
renovated and reopened with mostly suites and a few deluxe rooms.
The style of the Carlton could be called regal, and you feel
like an absolute prince or princess when you’re staying there. From the highly
attentive and impeccable service to the sumptuous rooms with incredible views,
you are treated like royalty. Every person arriving at the hotel is greeted by
the general manager and that sets the tone for the rest of your stay.
The Carlton Hotel is huge so there’s plenty of space for
everyone to spread out. There are 60 suites in total. During the recent
renovation they hired a Swiss interior designer, Carlo Rampazzi, who was very
generous in application of color. Each of the suites has a general theme of
color, imagine aquas, purples, blues, and oranges. The hotel rooms and suites
range from a Deluxe Double room, which starts at 35 m2, and the suites go up to
65 m2. Each suite, regardless of is Junior, Deluxe, or Family, or even more
grand like the Carlton penthouse, features a living space with couches. Many of
the suites have walk-in wardrobe, perfect for those who never go on holiday
without bringing everything.
The Carlton penthouse is easily one of the most amazing
hotel rooms in the world, featuring three bedrooms, one with a huge walk-in
bath and wardrobe, and incredible views of the lake. There are two terraces, a
fireplace, a living room, working areas, and its own elevator entrance. The
living area alone is 95 m2.
There are two restaurants, one of which has a Michelin
starred chef. Da Vittorio is run by Italian brothers Enrico and Roberto Cerea.
As a result, you’ll get some very fine Italian cuisine based off their
restaurant with the same name near Bergamo, which has three Michelin stars. The
other restaurant called Romanoff serves fine authentic Swiss cuisine. There’s
also the spacious Carlton bar, with a fantastic sun-drenched terrace, where on
a beautiful day you can sit back and enjoy the views, while having a selection
of food and drink.
The Carlton Hotel has an excellent spa and wellness area,
where you’ll be pampered to your hearts content with steam baths, several
saunas, hydro massage showers and an ice fountain. There’s a relaxation area
and sun terrace, a sports pool, an outdoor Jacuzzi, an indoor and outdoor pool,
a fitness center with great equipment, and a massage spa area with six
individual treatment rooms. The whole wellness area is 1200 m2, which expands
over three different floors.
If you’re after the highest level of luxury in ritzy St
Moritz, or in fact anywhere in the world, The Carlton Hotel is worth putting on
your bucket list.
