The evening finds us enjoying a delicious BBQ dinner at The Armory, conveniently located just across the street from Sonora Inn, offering a taste of local flavours to please any appetite for the days to come.
Perfect spot to grab a cocktail and huddle around the outdoor fire pit.
From Gold Rush Heritage to Cider Tasting: Exploring Tuolumne’s Rich Tapestry
With time on our side, we meander through the streets of Downtown Sonora once more, each corner revealing new delights and hidden treasures.
Our journey then takes us to Columbia State Historic Park, a living testament to California’s rich Gold Rush heritage, where we immerse ourselves in the stories of the past.
St Charles Saloon is a great lunch spot worth trying, especially the pickle pizza, root beer and tapas tator tots.
From there, venture onwards to Indigeny Reserve, to try a spot of cider tasting amidst picturesque orchards. known locally as the secound best spot to take a first date in Tuolumne
Here, amidst the serene surroundings offers a moment of tranquillity, accompanied by the tantalising flavours of locally produced cider. Don’t forget to snap a photo by the historic covered bridge on your way in.
A visit to the Rail town 1897 State Historic Park
A visit to Jamestown and Railtown 1897 State Historic Park adds another layer to our exploration.
Here you can explore much important historical railway history such as the train which was used in the film Back To The Future 3 as well as being the filming location for the movie.
before we end the day we head to Jamestown Frosty for a slice of Americana at this classic drive in diner spot. Cheese burgers, fries, fountain soda, milkshakes and of course, ice cream, all served in the classic diner style.
As we retreat to the comfort of Sonora Inn once more, the memories of our first day in Tuolumne County linger, promising even more adventures to come.
With hearts full of anticipation, we drift off to sleep, eager for the journey that awaits us on the morrow.
Exploring Pinecrest Lake and the Charms of Groveland
Tuesday dawns with the promise of another day filled with exploration and adventure.
We eagerly set off for our first activity of the day: a hike around the picturesque Pinecrest Lake.
Surrounded by towering pines and mirrored waters, this serene oasis offers the perfect backdrop for a morning spent immersed in nature’s tranquillity.
We seize the opportunity to take to the waters of Pinecrest Lake, gliding across its glassy surface in a motor boat, that takes us to the start of the trail head.
The hike starts at the other side of the lake and the hiking route is called Cleo’s Bath and is marked out by signs and colour marks along the trail. The route will take you on a loop and will be around 3 hours total to complete.
Enjoy lunch at Cover’s Apple Ranch
As midday approaches, we find ourselves drawn to Cover’s Apple Ranch, where a hearty lunch awaits amidst the orchard’s bounty.
A popular armish community can be found in the area and they bring there fantastic hearty portions and top quality ingriendents to the table. Be prepared for a holesome meal with generouse sides and of course the legandary mile high apple pie that they freshly bake on location. Don’t skip dessert here, you won’t be left dissapointed.
They also have a miniture railway and farm you can enjoy on your visit.
Here, we savour the crisp flavours of locally grown produce, indulging in a feast that celebrates the region’s agricultural heritage.
We bid farewell to Pinecrest Lake and make our way towards Groveland, our next destination on this journey through Tuolumne County.
Arriving in the Groveland area of Tuolumne County
Our first stop in this charming town is Around the Horn Brewing Company, where we embark on a beer tasting adventure, sampling a selection of craft brews that showcase the region’s brewing prowess.
The remainder of the afternoon is ours to spend at leisure, as we wander through the streets of Groveland, discovering its hidden treasures and soaking in its small-town charm.
Groveland was originally a popular gold rush town and then became a sleepy farming community until the San Francisco Hetch Hetchy water project made it their headquarters.
Don’t forget to visit the Iron Door Saloon, the oldest continuously operating saloon in California. It was built in the California Gold Country sometime before 1852.
As evening falls, we gather for a delicious dinner at the Grill at Pine Mountain Lake, where we toast to another day of unforgettable experiences in Tuolumne County.
With contented hearts and memories to last a lifetime, we retire to the comfort of Lillaskog Lodge, our home away from home for the night.

Into the Wilderness: Exploring Yosemite’s Hidden Wonders on a Jeep tour with Miller’s Off Road Adventures
Wednesday invites us to delve deeper into the rugged wilderness of Tuolumne County, as we embark on a day filled with exhilarating adventures and natural beauty.
The highlight of the day has to be heading out on a Jeep tour with Miller’s Off Road Adventures.
As we buckle up and venture into the untamed terrain, the thrill of the unknown propels us forward, our senses heightened with each twist and turn of the trail.
With expert guidance from our knowledgeable hosts, we traverse landscapes that seem to belong to another world, marvelling at the sheer magnificence of nature’s handiwork.
The Jeep tour also gives you a look into the devistating scale of the recent forest fire that took place back in 2013 that hit and trajicaly destroyed the area.
Hike around Hetch Hetchy
Our next stop takes us to the breathtaking Hetch Hetchy in Yosemite National Park, where we embark on a self-guided hike through landscapes that epitomise the raw beauty of the wilderness.
This gives you a chance to see some stunning waterfalls and to understand the construction scale of this incredible dam.
A wonderful spot for hiking, with not so busy trails and located within Yosemite National Park and doesn’t require a park pass, making it a wonderful hiking day to do before or after your visit to Yosemite and close by to the entrance too.
With each step, we immerse ourselves in the serenity of our surroundings, the only sounds the gentle rustle of leaves and the distant call of wildlife.
As lunchtime approaches, we find respite amidst the tranquil surroundings of Evergreen Lodge, where a wonderful lunch and service awaits, providing sustenance for the adventures still to come.
They do a fun smore bourbon cocktail, great burgers and a wonderful bowl of Chili too. Not to be missed.
With appetites sated, we set out to we find ourselves at Rush Creek Lodge and Spa, where luxury and relaxation await.
The spa facilities to indulgent spa treatments that rejuvenate both body and soul, every moment is an opportunity to savour the finer things in life.
The evening culminates in a wonderful dinner, where we toast to the day’s adventures and the memories we’ve made along the way.
With hearts full of gratitude and minds brimming with wonder, we retire to our accommodations, the promise of tomorrow’s adventures lingering in the air.

Tuolumne County is a great gateway to Yosemite National Park

But it is important to still address the elephant in the room,
You simply can’t come all the way to Tuolumne County and not spend some time in Yosemite National Park.
Tuolumne County is indeed the gateway to Yosemite National Park and it’s where you will find the entrance to the park.
You will need to book your Park permit and you can do so in advance.
This is a good reason to highlight at this stage that if you’re visiting and spending some time in and around Tuolumne County, you don’t need a park permit until you enter the entrance.
That means that hiking locations such as jeep tour with Miller’s Off Road Adventures, Hetch Hetchy and Pinecrest Lake are close to the park but don’t require a park permit to enjoy the trails so be sure to extend your time and make the most out of this around Tuolumne County.
